i'm a bit of a germaphobe. yeah, that's right, i don't like to eat things that have touched the table and i get a little short of breath when i think about a mcdonald's playplace, so sue me. i know i am not alone and i am the tip of the phobic iceberg when it comes to the women in my family. my sister will not get near her bed in street clothes and has a difficult time not burning everything she's wearing after she gets off an airplane.
lately, i have been near to panic attack when i start to think about what is on the handle of my grocery cart. how many other people have touched it? what else have they done that day? what exactly is the sticky red stuff that i am sure some precious little kid regurgitated and left on the handle? so i touch the plastic, i grab my food, i put it into the basket (also disgusting and probably more germ ridden than i want to fathom,) it goes onto the check out conveyor belt, the cashier touches it and then it comes to my house, goes inside my cupboards and refrigerator and then inside me. ugh! when i think about it too much i convince myself that it is simply safer to stay inside and avoid any entanglement and contact with the outside world. get over it crazy! life is a germ and you are going to live it. suck it up, throw some disinfectant wipes in your bag and get on with your day. other possible strategy: head strait to the meat department where they have the wipes in tubs and do a solid wipe down there. therapy anyone?

i have an idea... go to harmons!! they have wipes right at the front by the shopping carts just for that reason! i love it!!
wow marce, a little ocd maybe? crazy girl! maybe just start by eating things off the floor (when they fall onto it) and realize nothing bad happens to you, and you'll be on your way to curedom! I do it all the time! and look at me! uhh....so maybe you don't want to do that
Sadly, I must admit, I'm the same way with disgusting carts! I second Chels though, Harmons & Albertsons are great because they provide the wipes for you at the door! :)
third on the Harmons!
It was so fun to hear from you =) what a cute couple you are! I hope all is well!
katie and jeff
OK so that is EXACTLY my husand Billy...germaphob and especially with the shopping carts! it makes me giggle, i've become the same way!
as for burning clothes after an airplane ride...I'd be naked...you know how much we are on and off planes in a month!
I'm not gonna lie: Clorox wipes have changed my life. You should probably invent a device that you can slip over the top of the grocery cart handle, and subsequently, take it home and wash it each time you use it....eh? From the looks of the rest of these comments, it seems as though you could develop a fairly successful small business selling them.
Also, Meagle and I have a b-day present for your hubby that I think you'll enjoy as well (:
Marce, my store has those anti-bac wipes right where you pic up your carts, just ready for this particular scenario. Maybe you could suggest it to your store - when I go to any other store I feel so panicky about touching the handles - - or letting Josie anywhere near them, but sometimes I do and life goes on I guess.
Wait until you have kids. These phobias will heighten like you wouldn't believe.
Hi Marcie~ I found you through Tanna's blog. Do you remember me? We were on Panhellenic together and you were at my wedding!!
I just LOVE this whole blogging "rabbit hole" thing. I can't wait to look all through your blog and see what you have been up to.
I am living in Texas (still, we moved here right after getting married and now we will never leave) with 3 small kiddos.
I will check back in tonight when I have more time after the kids are in bed. Take care!
