"A feeling of reverence for beauty is one of the distinguishing characteristics in a life of quality. Responsiveness to the beautiful; beauty in God's out-of-doors, beauty in worship, in our homes...nothing so quickly reveals a person's character as appreciation that requires fine discrimination. So many cheap things crowd in our lives and crowd out the beautiful, so that we are urged to along with the majority - a movie in preference to symphony, cheap magazines in preference to classics. Thus preoccupied with many tasks and common practices, we lose the power to love the highest when it comes to us. The total result is irreparable injury to our characters."
Obert C. Tanner
i feel like there is so much to learn from this man. he was brilliant, he saw the invaluable value in beauty and he gave, gave, gave. my goal for january is to read his biography. although he is no longer with us, i like to think he is still my boss and that at the end of the day, i am still accountable to him. thank you "uncle obert."
*forgive the bad photo. i was too lazy to find one to scan and this was the best one available on the interweb
